Yoga for People Who Have Cancer

A few months ago I found out one of my childhood best friends has cancer. It is actually his second time having cancer. I didn't know about the first time because it was beforethe days of Facebook.

As I read his GoFundMe, I learned that he'd be in treatment for several months and would not be able to work during that time. Apart from making a donation, I thought about what else I might be able to do to show him support, seeing that he does not live close by.

As a yoga practitioner and yoga teacher, I tend to turn to yoga for most challenges in life. Headache? Yoga. Back pain? Yoga. Stress? Yoga. Mind body practices such as yoga, meditation, and relaxation have been scientifically proven to promote health and healing.

While yoga cannot heal cancer, it can certainly help with managing the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, including stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and even chemo brain.

And of course, yoga is beneficial for the patient's partner or care-giver too. Caring for someone who has cancer can be emotionally draining and very stressful.

During some stages of cancer treatment it may not be possible to practice asana (yogaposes), but it is always possible to practice relaxation. So here it is, a relaxation practice you can do anytime, anywhere. Just find yourself a comfortable position and hit play.

This video is for my friend Bobby and all my other friends and acquaintances who have cancer or have had cancer, and everyone who cares about them. My heart is with you and I hope this little practice brings a moment of ease to your life.

Please feel welcome to share this with your friends and loved ones, too.

All my best,
Zelinda
