What is Mindfulness?

We hope you had a good holiday last week! We certainly did, though it was a busy week for Zelinda and TYR team. We wrapped up a great Small Business Saturday (thanks for your support!) and bid a fond farewell to the studio space. (In case you aren't aware, we're letting go of our current physical space in preparation to move to a new location in the future, when we feel ready to re-open our doors to in-person classes again.)

Saying goodbye is hard, but we're reminded that while endings may be sad, it means that something else is about to begin.

Speaking of beginnings: for many of us, this is the start of an especially busy time of the year. If you're already feeling extra hectic, we highly recommend joining us for Angela's weekly online Mindfulness class, every Thursday evening from 6 - 7 p.m.

So, what is mindfulness, and why should you practice it? Mindfulness is as an intentional practice of awareness where you purposefully pay attention to what is, without judgement: noticing thoughts, feelings, and body sensations.

During Angela's hour-long class, you'll begin by moving through gentle, accessible yoga postures to warm up the body and prepare the mind. Then you’ll be guided through a mindfulness practice that may include conscious breathing, visualization, and/or meditation. "The focus is primarily on body + mind awareness rather than the 'perfect' pose," says Angela.

Why be mindful? "Instead of being overwhelmed by thoughts, feelings, and sensations, we become aware of them", says Angela, which can help us to think more clearly, to make better decisions, to manage our emotions, and to be more fully engaged in life.

While this practice is designed for experienced yoga practitioners, it is also appropriate for beginners who are patient and open-minded. We look forward to seeing you in class! Remember: even if you can't attend live, you can sign up for class, and receive the class recording to practice on your schedule. Click here to register!

Take good care of you,
