I hope you're having a good week!
Today I'd like to share an important studio update with you. In our quest to make our studio comfortable and accessible to EveryBody, we're going fragrance-free in support of people who are sensitive and/or allergic to fragrances and the chemicals found in scented products.
What does this mean?
We're eliminating fragrances from our cleaning products and hand soaps, and we're asking everyone in our community to consciously avoid wearing products that contain lingering scents, including perfumes, colognes, essential oils, lotions, creams, deodorants, hairsprays, etc, inside The Yoga Room. It's also important for each person to make sure their body is clean and free of odor.
Why do we need to make this change?
People who are sensitive to fragrances and the chemicals used in scented products can experience a range of symptoms including, but not limited to, difficulty breathing, headaches, migraines, nausea, and rashes. In practicing yoga, we spend a lot of time focusing on breathing, so it's especially important to keep our air fresh and clean.
Additionally, several members of our community have communicated difficulties related to scents in our studio, so in order to keep our space accessible to EveryBody, we are choosing to make this change.
Thank you for being a part of our community, and for helping build a community that values respect for all its members.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
A little about us (Nice to meet you!)
This being January, we have a lot of new folks coming into the studio and signing up for this newsletter, so I thought it would be a good time to (re)introduce myself and tell you a little bit about The Yoga Room.
My name is Zelinda; I'm the founder of The Yoga Room. I've been practicing yoga for 20 years and I started teaching 10 years ago. You can read more about my background here. I opened The Yoga Room in 2010, and over the years, we've added a staff of excellent teachers and a very kind and welcoming reception team.
At The Yoga Room, our philosophy is Yoga for EveryBody. We offer yoga classes and workshops to suit all kinds of bodies and all kinds of goals. Our classes are simply organized into three types based on physical intensity: Gentle, Moderate, and Strong. Our workshops span a variety of topics to help you deepen your practice.
What special about our studio and our teaching is that we focus on adapting the practice to the practitioner, rather than the other way around. Our students range in age from 5 - 90, with every type of body imaginable.
Some of our students use wheelchairs, some have knee or back issues that prevent them from getting down onto the floor, some have wrist, elbow or shoulder issues that prevent them from bearing weight on their hands, some have difficulty balancing, some live with chronic pain.
We believe every student can practice and benefit from yoga, it's just a matter of finding the right practice. And with our diverse staff of teachers, we help our students find the right practice.
We welcome you to our community and look forward to getting to know you better. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments, or feedback.
All my best,
Zelinda
