Core Strengthening with Therapeutic Yoga

A strong core is vital to healthy, pain-free movement. If you often have pain in your low back, hips, knees, neck, and/or shoulders, you’d probably benefit from strengthening your core.
Why, you ask? If your abdominal muscles are weak, your body will rely on your low back muscles to support and stabilize your movement. Your low back muscles aren’t designed for this job, so they get fatigued and tight, resulting in pain. If you’re lacking core strength, this type of compensation can happen in many parts of your body, resulting in muscular tension and pain.
How do you fix it? First, you must establish good communication between your brain and your abdominal muscles. Only then should you begin working on slow, strategic strengthening.
It’s very important to go slowly for best results. Doing too much too soon will cause your body revert to your old, familiar, dysfunctional movement habits.
In this workshop you’ll learn:
how to re-establish good communication between your brain and abdominal muscles
how to gently and comfortably begin strengthening your abdominal muscles
when to take breaks (this is very important!)
when and how to appropriately progress
how making a habit of using good posture reinforces good core strength

About Zelinda
Zelinda is a yoga therapist and the founder of Round Rock Yoga. With 18 years of experience and over 1200 hours of training in the US and India, Zelinda teaches yoga that comfortably and effectively reduces pain for people with all kinds of bodies. Zelinda is skilled at connecting with students and making yoga relatable and accessible.
In addition to teaching at Round Rock Yoga, Zelinda has offered yoga for a wide range of populations, including K-12 special needs students, university student-athletes, corporate employees, outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients, and at conferences, both in person and online. She also shares yoga with students around the world through her YouTube channel, Yoga with Zelinda.
