Pre-Work: Mechanics of Breathing

Think of your lungs like two balloons. When you inhale, your lungs fill with air and expand. When you exhale, the air leaves your lungs and they contract.

Lie in a comfortable position and place your hands on your abdomen. Begin to observe the movement of your abdomen as you breathe. Verify that your belly expands when you inhale and contracts when you exhale. This may take a little practice. Practice your Mechanics of Breathing for a few days until you’re confident you’re breathing correctly.

Recovery

After you do the strengthening posture, follow up with these key movements to help your body relax and recover.

You did it!

You’re working on strengthening the communication between your brain and your muscles. The more consistently and mindfully you practice, the more quickly the communication will improve.

When you feel confident about your breathing mechanics, you’re ready for Step 1.
