3 Quick & Easy Ways to Recharge Your Batteries

Ever wish you could get away for a little break? Take some time to decompress and reconnect with yourself, your dreams, and your priorities? In our modern, connected society, we are always "on." We work. We take care of our families. We try to maintain a social life. And in our downtime we check email, read the news, and keep up with our friends near and far with a few clicks on our phones. We never. slow. down.

And while it's great to be productive, this busy, connected lifestyle inherently causes us stress. And stress, as we know, leads to a bunch of unhealthy and harmful effects on our bodies, minds, and spirits.

So what can we do about it? Find ways to take meaningful breaks.

Here are 3 easy ways to integrate breaks into a hectic life:

  • Create a Relaxation Ritual. Every morning or evening, take time to soothe your spirit. Set aside 15 minutes to enjoy a cup of tea, work on your hobby or craft project, or even meditate.
  • Designate a Disconnected Day (or even just a few hours) each weekend. Turn off the TV, the phone, the computer, and any other communication devices you may have, and do an old-school, slow activity. Tell your friends you're taking some time off and read, take a bubble bath, do a crossword puzzle, or garden. Do anything you'd like, and take time to breathe.
  • Take a Mini-Vacation. While it's not always feasible to take a week off and fly to Cabo or the Bahamas, you can take a long weekend and drive to Port Aransas or a Bed & Breakfast in the Hill Country. Spend a few days disconnected and enjoy some time for yourself.

If any of these ideas have inspired you to take action, post a comment letting us know these three things: what kind of meaningful break you're going to take, when you're going to take your break, and how you anticipate your break will help you feel.

Happy relaxing!
