Holiday & New 2014 Schedule
I'm excited to report that our Holiday Class Schedule AND our Jan - Mar 2014 Class schedules are ready! First up, please note that we will be closed on Christmas Day. We'll offer a modified schedule of classes on the days around Christmas and New Year's as follows:
Starting January 2nd we'll transition to the following new schedule. Many of your favorites stay the same AND we will be offering a number of interesting new changes. Please keep reading below for details...
We're hired two great new teachers, April and Amal, who will be on our schedule starting in January. April will teach Hatha I on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Amal will teach CorePower Yoga on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. If you're wondering what CorePower Yoga is, it's a stronger practice than Hatha, and might even be considered a cross between Hatha and Pilates. It's excellent for strengthening and toning.
Starting in January our Babies' and Children's class offerings will change a bit.
- We'll continue to offer our Postnatal class on Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. This class is appropriate for babies 6 weeks - crawlers.
- We'll have a new Crawlers & Toddlers class on Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m. This class is suitable for crawlers and children up to age 2.
- Our Yogatime! class on Sundays moves to 10:30 a.m.
- We'll offer a new Yoga for Kids series (ages 6 - 10) on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. Since this class is a 4 week series, it's listed on our Workshops page rather than on our Class Schedule.
Also, our Saturday and Sunday morning class times change in January. Please note that our first class starts at 8:00 a.m. on weekends.
And I'm really excited about our new 90 minute Gentle yoga class that I'll be teaching on Saturday mornings at 8:00. This class will be the perfect way to let go of the work week and set the tone for a rejuvenating weekend. We'll spend 90 minutes working our way through Gentle and Restorative poses, Deep Relaxation, and Meditation. It's going to be awesome!
You can pick up a printed copy of the schedule at the studio starting this weekend.
I look forward to seeing you soon!

XO, Zelinda
P.S. If you've ever considered writing a review for us on Yelp, now would be a great time to do it! Yelp has a policy of closing a business' Yelp profile when the business relocates, so we now have a brand new Yelp page with only one review. We'd love to build our reviews back up. If you'd like to help, please make sure to pick the profile with the current address (503 E. Palm Valley Blvd.). Thank you!
Holiday Toy Drive
One day last week I had a pretty tough day. As I drove home in the evening, all I could think about was getting my kids to bed so I could have a relaxing soak in the tub. I imagined a scented Epsom salt bath. I imagined dim lighting. I just needed a little peace and quiet.
When I got home, my husband met me with a serious face. “There's no water.” My response was a blank expression – I was confused. He explained that he forgot to pay the water bill. In that moment my hope for my peaceful and relaxing bath was dashed. My disappointment must have been evident in my face. My husband thought I was mad at him, but really I was just sad that I wasn't going to have my luxurious bath.
And then I caught myself. How spoiled am I? So many people live their lives with far less than what I've been blessed with, and I'm going to pout about not being able to take a bath in my tub for one night? Later that evening I borrowed my neighbors' shower and life went on.
This experience of having my water turned off for one night made me think more about people who are less fortunate and what their lives must be like. I thought about what it must be like to be homeless in this freezing weather we've been having. And I thought about what it must be like for the children at The Texas Baptist Children's Home (our neighbors across the street from the studio) who are living without their parents.
This year The Yoga Room is hosting a Toy Drive for the children at TBCH. If you're not familiar with this organization, TBCH provides housing for children whose parents are not able to care for them, and also for single moms who have fled difficult situations and need help with their young families.
I became familiar with TBCH years ago when I worked at Dell – my team did most of our community service projects there. And through that introduction, I was later able to do my student teaching as a yoga teacher at TBCH. I've found the staff and house parents at TCBH to be wonderful people who are genuinely dedicated to helping children. I feel honored to be able to support them with their Toy Drive this year.
If you're looking for a way to help support someone who is perhaps less fortunate this holiday season, please consider donating a toy for the Toy Drive. You can bring a toy to our Grand Opening & Holiday Party this weekend, or anytime before Wednesday, December 18th.

XO, Zelinda
