Meet the Chakras!

In one of our recent business team meetings, Adria told us about a cartoon that she'd seen online. The first frame of the cartoon showed a person holding a small boulder, illustrating the weight of their usual responsibilities. In the next frame, an additional boulder was added, conveying the weight of the pandemic. Gradually, each frame added in additional boulders for the person to carry: political concerns, financial concerns, etc. 

It's important to remember that we're carrying quite a bit these days, and it's understandable to feel strain under that weight. If you've been feeling that strain recently, know that you aren't alone!

Yoga is one way we can put aside our "boulders", even if only for an hour. If you're someone who seeks out movement, join us for one of our asana classes, or if you're someone who craves stillness, try our Relaxation or Mindfulness classes. Also, if you're seeking community, we'd love to see you in one of our live Zoom classes; we're grateful for those minutes before practice to connect with each other.

The literal translation of the Sanskrit word chakra is “wheel”. Chakras are the seven centers of radiant power or vital energy located from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each is a hub for the life force, known as prana, that flows through the body. The chakras affect everything we feel, think, say, and do. If the energy at any of these centers becomes blocked, it can throw us out of balance.
 
In this 4 week online series you'll learn about the 7 main chakras and their qualities. Color, sound, and associated emotions as well as associated crystals and essential oils will be explored through asana and simple meditation. You’ll discover how to enhance your peace of mind, boost your creativity, improve your communication skills, and much more!

This 4 week series will be held on Tuesdays, November 17 - December 8, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. CST. No prior knowledge is necessary. This is a complete introduction!

Take a Seat!

This week we invite you to pull up a chair and join us in Melisse's Thursday morning Chair Yoga classes!

If you're not familiar with our Chair Yoga classes, Melisse offers a gentle, accessible class with many opportunities to customize the practice for your unique body and your individual needs. During the hour-long practice, you'll be primarily seated on a chair with the option of standing with the support of the chair if you choose. 

Melisse shared with us, "What I love about teaching chair yoga is that it is accessible and adaptable to anyone. No prior yoga experience is needed to attend a chair class. My goal in class is to connect breath with gentle, safe body movement. My hope is that once class is done, students will feel more relaxed and flexible."
 
Anyone can benefit from a Chair Yoga practice but those students who have trouble getting up and down from the floor, who have trouble standing for long periods of time, who are recovering from an injury, or who are looking to reduce anxiety and stress in a gentle way may especially benefit. 

Melisse's Chair Yoga class is offered weekly on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. CST. Once you're signed up, you'll receive both a link to the live class session and a copy of the class recording after class has concluded. So, if you can't attend live, please do sign up and use the class recording to practice anytime it's convenient for you!
